The Truth About Khatu Shyam Baba

SkIn Chapters 60 and 66 of Maheshwarkhand-Kumarikakhand [2] of Nadapuran, Ghatotkacha marriage and his son Barbarik have been described in great detail. There is no mention of Barbarika in any other Purana or scripture. On being asked by Sage Nak, Ugrashrava (Sut ji) tells that when Ghatotkacha came to Indraprastha to meet the Pandavas on the request of his mother Hidimba Devi. There he met all the Pandavas including Shri Krishna. Then Shri Krishna told everyone that Murdaitya's daughter Mauravi (Kamakatankata) would be married to Ghatotkacha. The same thing happened after some time. After marriage, a very bright child was born to Ghatotkacha and his wife. As soon as he was born, the child attained puberty. Then Ghatotkacha hugged the child and said – Son! Your hair is curly. That's why your name will be 'Barbarik'.

bFather Ghatotkacha reached Dwarka with Barbarik to meet Shri Krishna. Then Barbarik said to Shri Krishna - Aryadev Madhav! I salute you and ask by what means the welfare of the living beings born in this world is achieved. Then Shri Krishna said to Barbarik – You first worship the goddesses to get strength. Your heart is very beautiful, hence from today you will also have another name ‘Suhridaya’.

tB. Barbarik went to Mahisagar Sangam pilgrimage and worshiped nine Durgas. Barbarik worshiped the goddess for three years. Then the goddesses, satisfied with the worship of Barbarik, gave him direct darshan and also provided him with that rare power which no one else in the three worlds had before. The goddesses also gave Barbarik a new name 'Chandil' and blessed him that he would be famous and revered all over the world.

SuT ji further says - Subsequently, when all the Pandavas and kings gathered for war at a place called 'Upaplavya'. Then Yudhishthir said to everyone – Devkinandan! Hearing the description of the charioteers and charioteers from Bhishma's grandfather, Duryodhana asked the experts on his side as to which warrior could end the war in how many days. Therefore, now I am asking the same question to all of you also. Hearing this, Arjun said - I can destroy all the Kauravas along with the army in the war in one day. Hearing Arjun's words, Ghatotkacha's son Barbarik said laughingly - Arjun and Shri Krishna, all of you stand quietly, I will send Bhishma etc. to Yamalok in one moment. You people should also see my fierce bow, these two inexhaustible weapons and this sword given by Bhagwati Siddambika. I have such divine things. That's why I talk about winning over everyone like this. id="t196">L

LThen Arjun looked at Shri Krishna questioningly. Then Shri Krishna asked Ghatotkacha's son Barbarik - O my dear! How can you kill the Kaurava army so quickly, protected by great warriors like Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Ashwatthama, Karna and Duryodhana, which is difficult even for Shri Krishna to conquer? What such solution do you have? Hearing this, Barbarik immediately raised his bow and shot the arrow at him. Then he filled the arrow with red colored ash and pulled it till his ear and released it. The red ash that flew from the mouth of that arrow fell on the heart places of the soldiers of both the armies. Only five Pandavas, Kripacharya, Shri Krishna and Ashwatthama did not get the mark of that red color on their bodies. Sindoorabhen Bhasmana ॥38॥

tB Barbarik said to all the people - You people saw that through this action I saved all the heroes who died. Have inspected the heartland. Now I will shoot the sharp and infallible arrow given by the Goddess in those very places, due to which all these warriors will die within a moment. All of you have sworn by your respective religions to never take up arms. Within two moments I will kill all these enemies with sharp arrows. आवास्य शिर्षच्छित्त्वा न्यपातयत्॥48॥

Seeing this, there was an uproar there and everyone looked at Shri Krishna with surprise and started crying. Then all the fourteen goddesses like Siddhambika reached there. Then Goddess Shri Chandika consoled Ghatotkacha and said in a loud voice - 'All kings listen. Let me tell you the reason why the wise soul Lord Krishna killed the mighty Barbarik. In ancient times, the earth, being sad, went to the gods and said - You guys, please take off my burden. I am being burdened by the sins of demons. Then Lord Vishnu and Brahma ji said 'Amen'. At the same time, the Yaksharaj named 'Suryavarcha' raised his arms and said - 'Why do you people take birth in the human world while I am alive? I alone will incarnate and destroy all the demons burdening the earth.' id="t333">After hearing thisSeeing this, there was an uproar there and everyone looked at Shri Krishna with surprise and started crying. These Brahma ji got angry and said - Durmate! This great weight of the earth is painful for all the gods. And you call it an end goal only for yourself. Idiot ! While removing the burden of the earth, even before the war begins, Vishnuavatar Shri Krishna will destroy your body with his own hands.'

BrBy the curse of Lord Hama. Feeling sad, Suryavarcha pleaded with Lord Vishnu – ‘Lord! I have a prayer that from birth, give me such an intelligence which will prove all the meanings.' Then Lord Vishnu said in the Dev Sabha - 'This will happen. Ladies will worship your head. You will become worshipable. After that what happened was as God had said. So don't all of you be sad. This is Suryavarcha, the son of Ghatotkacha is Barbarik.'
AShri Krishna himself says - 'O Goddess Chandika! This is the head of the devotee. You water it with nectar and make it immortal.' When Barbarik came alive and expressed his desire to see the war, God said - 'Vats! As long as this earth, sky, moon and stars remain, you barbarians will be worshiped by all people. Now you go and climb this mountain peak and stay there. You will see the war taking place from there.' Hearing this, Barbarik's head was placed on the peak of the mountain and his body was lying on the earth, after which his body was duly cremated. No ritual was performed on the head. id="t415">Ra

RaThe temple of Baba Khatu Shyam ji, located in Khatu village in Sikar district of Jasthan, is the same place where the severed head of Shri Barbarik ji, the brave man drenched in nectar and who attained immortality, is kept. His head is immortal and whatever his devotees ask from him, he definitely fulfills it. That temple has a lot of recognition in the country and abroad. Ge Sut ji says that Brahmins!
