Hiranyaksha, Ravana and Shishupala Were One

Hiranyaksha, Ravana and Shishupala Were One

skIt is told in the Kartikamas Mahatmya of Nadapuran that due to the vision of Maharishi Kardam, two sons named 'Jai' and 'Vijay' were born from the womb of Trinavindu's daughter Devahuti. He had a very dedicated devotion to Lord Vishnu. For this reason, Lord Vishnu made him his gatekeeper. It is told in the Avantyakhand Avantikshetra Mahatmya of Skandpuran that once the four sages known by the names Sanakadi (Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan and Sanatkumar), the mental sons of Brahma, came to Vaikuntha Dham while traveling in all the worlds. Jai and Vijay, both the gatekeepers, were standing at the door. Both of them stopped the Sankadi sages from going inside because Lord Vishnu was resting. When they did not stop, Jai and Vijay pushed those sages due to which the sages fell on the ground and became unconscious. Hearing the noise, Lord Vishnu came out of his palace and was very saddened to see the Kumaras fallen on the ground. He picked them up and hugged them to his chest. Sankadi Rishi may have been older in age but he looked like a child of five-six years only. And Lord Vishnu was very saddened by this behavior of Vijay. Due to the touch of God, all the four Kumaras came to their senses and said - "Maharaja! We wanted to come inside your Vaikuntha Dham for your darshan, but these two stopped us and also pushed us, due to which we became unconscious. To prevent such a thing from happening again, both of them will be sent to Asurayoni, this is our curse on them."

And in the third birth, both of them were born with the names ‘Dantavakra’ and ‘Sishupala’ in Dwapara Yuga. Some people think that in the third birth, Jai was born as Kansa, this is not mentioned in any Purana. They were each other's brothers in all three lives.

PIn the last birth, 'Vijay' was born as 'Hiranyaksha' and 'Jai' was born as 'Hiranyakshipu'. In the second birth, ‘Vijay’ took birth as ‘Ravana’ and ‘Jai’ took birth as ‘Kumbhakarna’. In the third birth, 'Vijay' was born as 'Sishupala' and 'Jai' was born as 'Dantavakra'.

HiA demon named Ranyaksha had captured Indra's heaven by conquering all the gods and had started considering himself as God. By killing, the suffering earth was brought out of the abyss. When the earth was submerged in water by the demon Hiranyaksha, Lord Varaha took birth in the form of Varaha and protected all the gods and sages by lifting the earth with his molars. Along with Hiranyaksha, many of his fellow demons were also killed by Lord Varaha. Only after all this, the fires of the Yagya Kunds were rekindled and peace was established in all directions. During the same time, the river Shipra, which grants the boon of eternal bliss, appeared from the heart of Lord Varaha.

“hB-When there will be a loss of righteousness and the rise of unrighteousness, then and only then will I continue to reveal myself." - Lord Shri Krishna, who always lived with this thought, took birth in the form of Varaha and killed the evil demon king Hiranyaksha and brought out the suffering earth from the abyss. When the demon Hiranyaksha had submerged the earth in water, then Lord Varaha, taking birth in the form of Varaha, picked up the earth with his tusks and took it out and protected all the gods and sages. It was only after this that Lord Varaha had killed many of his fellow demons and peace was established in all four directions. During that time, the river Shipra, which gives eternal happiness, appeared from the heart of Lord Varaha.

The story of the demon Hiranyakshipu is told in the seventeenth chapter of the first part of Shri Vishnu Purana.

Diteh Putro Mahaviryo Hiranyakshipu Pura.

Trilokyam Vashmaninye. Brahmano Vardarpitah ॥ 2 ll

hiA mighty demon named Hiranyakshipu, brother of Ranyaksha, had subdued the entire Triloki with his might. Indra, the king of the gods, was also deprived of his kingdom. That demon Hiranyakashipu started considering himself as Indra, Surya, Vayu, Kuber, Yamraj, Varun, Moon and Yamraj. Hiranyakashipu had received such a boon from Brahmaji and he became very proud of it. Due to his fear, all the gods changed their form and started living as ordinary humans. Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlad. Prahlad was a very true devotee of Lord Vishnu. King Hiranyakashipu tried very hard to make his son Prahlad leave Lord Vishnu and consider him as Lord Jagadishwar only, but even after millions of efforts, Prahlad, a devotee of Vishnu, did not budge. 21 ll

tb In anger, Hiranyakashipu ordered the killing of his own son, a devotee of Vishnu, Prahlad. Hearing his order, many demons got ready to kill Prahlad. Due to Hiranyakashipu's repeated words, all the demons started killing Prahlad, but Prahlad was not affected by those weapons. Then the king ordered the poisoner Takshak to end Prahlad's life with his poison. But this also had no effect on Prahlad. Then the snakes tried to kill Prahlad with their teeth but even then there was no effect on Prahlad. On the contrary, his own teeth broke. Hiranyakashipu himself got up and started killing Prahlad by lighting fire to kill him. Even then nothing happened so the priests explained to the king. Then Prahlad was taken out of the fire. But King Hiranyakashipu still did not agree. And he called his cooks and said - "Hey people of moneylenders! You people kill it by mixing Halahal poison in the food items."

jayThe same order as given by the king was done but it had no effect on Prahlad. Prahlad digested that Halahal poison also. Then Hiranyakashipu ordered his priests to end Prahlad's life by creating a crime. Krita appeared and attacked Prahlad but she herself got destroyed. Then Hiranyakashipu threw Prahlad down to the earth from a palace a hundred yojanas high but still nothing happened to him.

Then Prahlad said - "O lotus-eyed Krishna! Salutations to you. You are situated in my form, I salute you again and again. May you be pleased with me." Then Lord Vishnu took the form of a lion and pierced the chest of Hiranyakashipu, killed the demon and gave the boon of Nirvana to Prahlad. ShiWhen Shupal was born in the family of Chediraj Damghosh, he had four arms and three eyes. As soon as he was born, instead of crying, he made sounds like the braying of a donkey. Then everyone got scared. They were thinking of abandoning him when a voice from the sky said that he would be very strong and prosperous, follow him. If you put him in his lap, his two arms and third eye will disappear, he will die at his hands.

tAfter that, Chediraj kept Shishupala in the lap of whoever came to meet him, but he lost his third eye and arm. One day, when Shri Krishna came to meet his aunt, who was the mother of Shishupala, she also put Shishupala in her lap. As soon as he put it on, his spare arms and third eye fell off. Seeing this, the mother got scared and started praying to Shri Krishna, O Shri Krishna! Give me a boon that you will not kill my son.

Then Shri Krishna ji gave her a promise and said - "O aunt! Even if your son is worthy of being killed by me due to his faults, I will forgive his hundred faults." On the first fault, Shri Krishna killed Shishupal who had come for Yudhishthir's Rajasuya Yagya. 25 ll

KuIn the meeting of Pandavas before the battle of Rukshetra, when Shishupala's hundred faults were eliminated, then on the one hundred and first fault, Shri Krishna killed Shishupala who had come for Yudhishthir's Rajasuya Yagya.

TheNtavakra was born as an extremely powerful warrior. He was a friend of Shri Krishna's maternal uncle Kansa and son of Chediraj Damghosh and brother of Shishupala. His mother's name was Shrikantha, who seemed to be the aunt of Shri Krishna.
